Rosemaryrose provides a design service creating bespoke embroidered furnishing fabrics made in Britain. Zara Day creates all of the designs, her love of drawing has been the foundation to a career that has evolved from paper to fabric into embroidery, applique and embellishment. Her experience in printed textiles combined with her expert skills in embroidery creates a unique approach to the design of furnishing fabrics. She has over fifteen years’ experience using the techniques she applies to the design of each fabric. Rather than creating a repeated design she creates a truly unique fabric by creating designs for the individual shape of each product. These designs react against her training in printed textiles. Pattern is fundamental to her designs, but she looks at mixing it and where is it placed rather than just creating a repetitive pattern.
Zara works closely with each client to interpret a design to complement an existing or proposed interior scheme. She is dedicated to achieving the highest standards from concept to completion. The starting point is the time invested to fully understand the client’s own requirements and aspirations for the project. This allows every order to be bespoke, its layout, scale, colour combination and design are all worked out with the client with the finished piece being exclusive to them. Alternatively designs can be selected from a range of collections that illustrate what is possible. These can then be altered to meet the clients’ needs by changing colour or scale and created on a fabric of their choice. Designs can be produced on leather, silk, linen and wool. Hand drawings are created of the proposed design and presented with swatches of fabric and drawings of how the fabric will look once applied to the particular piece for the client’s approval.
The design is applied to the base fabric by hand using a combination of hand embroidery, free machine and digital embroidery techniques, fusing traditional and contemporary techniques. Zara specialises in the design of accent chairs, wall panels, cushions, lampshades, footstools and headboards. She works with skilled craftsmen to apply her fabric to a finished piece, attention paid to every detail of its production to create a luxurious piece of furniture which is unique.
